Indie Conference: December 2016
This month we've got updates from Ludicious: Zürich Game Festival, UIKonf, YOW! West, and a video from Marc Eckō at 99u.
As always, if you know of new conferences for the list, send me a message and I'll check it out. But more importantly, have a fantastic Christmas / New Year! I hope you get to spend time with the people you love and care about. Take a break from work, unless it's what you really enjoy and love doing.
New Conference Updates
Early bird tickets are available Ludicious: Zürich Game Festival on January 26 - 28. Ludicious is the biggest game event in Switzerland, and has a focus on indie games. There's also a games business track, with speakers including Eric Zimmerman from Gamelab (makers of Diner Dash) and Koh Kim from Google Play Games Development.
YOW! West has been announced for 2 - 3 May in Perth, Australia. YOW is a technical conference for software developers, but with some talks geared towards CTOs.
UIKonf is happening 14 - 17 May in Berlin, Germany. It's a conference for serious indie iOS developers, but this year they have a strong social and networking focus. They're planning kayaking, tours of a WWII bomb shelter and a visit to the Computer Games Museum.
New to the list, Mixin happens in October in Perth, Australia. It's a west coast alternative to the web design & development conferences happening in Sydney & Melbourne, run by the folks behind Perth's leading web teams (including Humaan, Bam Creative and Pin Payments).
Call For Presentations
Twilio Signal (San Francisco, CA, USA) call for presentations ends January 12. Signal is a developer conference focusing on communications (SMS, online messaging, AI bots), particularly using Twilio's platform but also applicable in general. The conference itself is 24 - 25 May 2017. Find more details at their page hosted by the folks at PaperCall: https://www.papercall.io/twilio-signal
Conference Video Of The Month
From the 99u, fashion designer Marc Eckō on ignoring the KPIs and metrics everyone else imposes on you. Instead of changing yourself to get validation and acceptance from industry gatekeepers, Marc suggests measuring yourself by your own ultimate standards. (Or as he calls it, Unlabel, which is miraculously the name of his book too.)
